Join Us in PRAISE!
Welcome to the Greater Golden Gate Missionary Baptist Church website. We hope you find information to learn more about GGG Church. As you learn more about our church, visit one of our worship services. If the Spirit leads you, join with us as we praise God together.
There are many organizations for you to explore, so that you can serve the Lord with joy. Sing praises unto Him in one of the choirs. Welcome visitors, guests, and members, as an usher. The Media Ministry helps to spread the Word beyond the church building. Find your place in the GGG Church, to serve God.
In the December, 2015 issue of The Smithsonian Magazine, author John Hanc posted the story of a prominent Victorian arts patron and educator, Henry Cole and an artist friend, J.C. Horsley. Thanks to an ingenious idea, Cole coached Horsley into designing what led to the printing of the world’s first Christmas card. While Cole and Horsley are credited with the first card in 1843, it was 30 years before a Prussian immigrant, Louis Brang printed the first card in the United States.
In 1915, a Kansas City-based postcard printing company started by Joyce Hall, and later joined by his brothers Rollie and William, published its first holiday card. The Hall Brothers company (which, later change its name to Hallmark), soon adapted a new format for the cards—4 inches wide, 6 inches high, folded once, and inserted in an envelope. In 2020, the American greeting card publishers reported $2.93 billion in greeting card sales.
However, the idea of Christmas greeting did not originate with man, but rather with God. He didn’t send out cards to say “Merry Christmas” to the world. He sent the Angel Gabriel with a message of Good News to Zacharias (Luke 1:11-17), and then to Mary, a virgin girl. Then Mary, the mother of Our Lord greeted Elisabeth with Grace (Luke 1:26-38), and as the babe leaped in her womb, Elisabeth under the unction of the Holy Ghost confirmed the presence of the prenatal Savior and affirmed Mary calling her “Blessed”(v. 41).
Through all of this God engineered the concept of greetings as a means of 1) Spreading the Good News, 2) Greeting with Grace and 3) Giving of Appropriate Affirmation about the birth of His own Son. So then, let us respond joyfully to sharing and proclaiming the Good News about Christ and Christmas to the whole world. Greetings saints! It’s Christmas!
Merry Christmas!
